In This Issue

Manager-turned-consultant in Reporting, Evaluation, Improvement, and system upgrades for recovery, housing, and human-services organizations. Long-term, repeat engagements with a Vermont recovery coalition and with Housing Works, the NYC social-enterprise pioneer, where I became a specialist in how everything worked and looked for places to make it more profitable. Trained, hired, and supervised staff and built Salesforce reporting and workflows still in use at both.

I always felt that the in-person work I did with the Department of Sanitation in NYC and Housing Works, aligning and refining systems, made the chance to work adjacent to and supportive of recovery centers even possible. They reached back and got me remotely from Pittsburgh, and it kept being about people I knew and loved working with.

On the record

  • VermontSole database liaison between the State, 12 recovery centers, 13 hospitals, and the shared database vendor from 2019 to 2022. Got the numbers out of the database for the quarterly federal reports on recovery coaching in 13 emergency departments, validated by each center’s ED supervisor, and built the reports centers used to run their own. Kept on at the written request of all 11 center directors. Built the support structures for 80-plus database users and answered them myself.
  • New YorkCall Center Manager and Operations Liaison to the Department of Sanitation for refashionNYC from 2013 to 2015. This textile recycling program tripled to 2.5 million pounds a year and reached 200,000 households. With the City contract under evaluation, got the City to send its daily work orders as a spreadsheet instead of PDFs, added the formulas that filled in dates and zip-code routing, and loaded them straight into Salesforce, cutting a seven-person call center’s data entry time by two-thirds; started daily 8 a.m. routing meetings with the movers to find where the sticking points were; and opened the conversation with the bin vendor that cut four bin types to two and installation time by a third: from under 300 bins when I arrived to over 900 when I left, across Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. On-time performance went from the low 80s to over 93 percent. Housing Works company-wide award for Efficiency and Improvement.
  • Pittsburgh (now)Reporting, Evaluation & Improvement Consultant to Recovery Partners of Vermont (14 member organizations) through its database transition ahead of Medicaid billing.
